Kyung-taek Kwak’s “Companion” is a journal, a memory of recollections around 4 companions and their unique ways from adolescence to class to adulthood. The film is described by one of the 4 companions, white collar class Sang-taek (Tae-hwa Seo), the most brilliant child in the pack. Whatever is left of the companions incorporate Jeong-suk (Oh-seong Yu), the child of a hoodlum; Dong-su (Dong-kun Jang), the child of a funeral director and Jeong-suk’s correct hand man; and Jeong-ho (Un-taek Jeong), the foursome’s comic foil.
The film opens in 1976 and takes after the companions up to 1993, when struggle between two of the companions unite every one of the 4 back once more. In the middle of, we take after the different existences of the foursome as they part, meet up once more, and part afresh. Through it all, their companionship is tried and strained and tried some all the more, particularly when two of the four companions wind up on restricting sides of a vicious pack war.
